Former high school teacher, who taught Taylor Swift, passed away on Friday at the age of 69 following a battle with metastatic kidney cancer. His family confirmed the news, noting that his passing occurred on the same day the pop superstar married Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in a star-studded New York City ceremony. Schwabe had recently been moved to hospice care after his health declined rapidly over several weeks.
Before transitioning into education, Kirk Schwabe served as a police officer in Chicago. He later taught criminal justice at Hendersonville High School in Nashville, where he instructed Swift from 2004 to 2006 as her music career began to take off.

Recognizing her potential early on, Schwabe eventually worked as a member of her personal security detail during her initial rise to national fame. His impact on the singer was publicly honored in the 2010 romantic comedy film Valentine’s Day, where a character’s teacher was named in his honor.

“If you know my dad, you know he has poured his heart into everything he’s done,” Sarah continued. “He has always loved teaching. He loves his students.”
Kirk Schwabe died during his battle with metastatic kidney cancer on Friday at age 69, his family told The Telegraph.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayed for my family, visited, brought meals, or simply checked in. The love surrounding him has been overwhelming in the best possible way. If I’m slow to respond, please know it’s not because your message isn’t appreciated. Right now my focus is on spending every moment I can with my dad.”
Prior to his passing, Schwabe expressed his support for Swift’s relationship, stating in a recent interview that he trusted her judgment and believed she knew what was best for her future. His family shared that he remained deeply proud of her enduring success and was happy for the couple ahead of their wedding.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s private ceremony took place at Madison Square Garden with notable figures and legendary musical performances celebrating the marriage.
