Professional boxer Kishawn Porter is facing a first-degree murder charge in Mesa, Arizona, after police say he beat his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son to death. Paramedics responded to an apartment on Tuesday following reports of a toddler in medical distress. Emergency personnel rushed the child to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. Suspicious bruising across the child’s body prompted medical staff to contact law enforcement, initiating a homicide investigation.

Investigators arrested the 23-year-old light heavyweight fighter shortly after arriving at the scene. Authorities stated that bruising found across Porter’s knuckles did not come from athletic training or competition, but rather from severe physical abuse. During Porter’s initial court appearance, prosecutors with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office alleged that he repeatedly struck the 2-year-old victim with his hands and a sandal. An autopsy conducted by the Maricopa County medical examiner revealed catastrophic internal trauma, including acute and healing rib fractures, a lacerated liver, and a lacerated stomach. Court records noted that the child suffered injuries so severe that survival was impossible, with forensic experts pointing to the older healing fractures as evidence of an ongoing pattern of violence in the home.

Detectives also accuse Porter of abusing his own 1-year-old child by spanking him, striking his mouth, and slapping his torso. Formal charges regarding the allegations involving the younger child have not yet been submitted to prosecutors. During court proceedings, state prosecutors outlined Porter’s prior juvenile record, which includes adjudications for child molestation and aggravated assault involving a restrained victim.
Following the public disclosure of the charges, two combat sports promotions announced they had officially severed ties with the fighter. A judge set Porter’s bond at $1.5 million as he remains in police custody. Prosecutors and law enforcement are continuing to finalize the case files as legal proceedings move forward in Maricopa County.
