A 17-year-old boy was beaten into a coma near Madison Square Garden following a verbal dispute about the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, according to the New York Police Department. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 11:45 p.m. in Midtown Manhattan, amid rowdy celebrations following the Knicks’ victory in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Authorities reported that a group of unknown individuals approached the teenager outside a building on West 35th Street. Detectives reviewed video footage from the scene that captured someone telling the celebrating crowd, “Spurs in 7,” before the confrontation turned physical.

The verbal dispute escalated rapidly as the individuals proceeded to punch and kick the victim about his head and body. Police stated that the assault caused the teenager to suffer a seizure and subsequently slip into a coma.
Emergency medical services personnel responded to the scene and rushed the victim to a local area hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. The assailants fled the scene on foot immediately after the attack, and their current whereabouts remain unknown to authorities.
